Day 36 update!

Day 36 update! I can’t believe we’re more than halfway through already.

The kinda weird photo is a nest of baby common Blackbirds (European).

They live on our balcony and we feel very privileged to have them so close to us. We of course don’t go too close and just snap the odd picture when the parents are away. They are currently two days old.

Ok, on to the 60 day challenge!

Things were moving along nicely until a couple of days ago – I plateaued for a few days and then my weight jumped up again yesterday!

It would normally be a horrible to see, but I’ve been in this game long enough to know that a minor set back is no reason to throw in the towel. In fact, I’ll be extra vigorous again now. The overall trend is still pointing down, too.

I think there were a few reasons for this sudden weight gain:

  1. Here in Germany it was Father’s Day then Mother’s Day in the space of 4 days. A lot of chocolate was eaten and several beers were drunk, too.
  2. I didn’t adapt my eating patterns. I’d been eating more to fuel my relatively heavy training, but over the 4 days with the kids I did much less training (but still ate the same). A mistake on my side for sure.
  3. I didn’t go for my daily walks, so my step count dropped. In fact, my step count was at the lowest since the two days after my knee operation last year. That’s probably the one I’m most disappointed with myself about. Extra time with the kids and a few beers and chocolate on special days is not something I hate!
  4. I haven’t been getting enough sleep. Each night for almost a week has been only been about 6 hours. I’ve (anecdotally) noticed that weight loss doesn’t work well with a lack of sleep (and the science supports it now, too). So that’s the major thing for me to work on next.

As always, my stats can be found here.

And I’d looove to hear from you all as well! Reply to this post with any comments 🙂
Right, I’m off for a walk.
