Hi Food Rebels,
Thanksgiving is around the corner and that means loads of Turkeys are gonna roast in the oven.
And thinking about it, I don’t want to take it away from you. If there is an occasion where I’d say “I’m ok with meat on the table”, then it’s Thanksgiving and similar festives.
Why?
Because on this occasion we’re much more aware of what ends up on our plates. We understand much better that this Turkey was killed and prepared, so we can sit down together and feast.
What a difference to the McDonalds Burger, where it’s almost impossible to associate the patty with an animal.
Why preparing a meal is so important
Thanksgiving, Christmas Dinners and alike make us put effort into our food and therefore more conscious about where the it came from.
I think this is a crucial part that is disappearing more and more in everyday our life.
At worst, we “nuke” a ready-made dish in the microwave and eat it in front of the TV. Because of the saved time and effort it’s just more economical that way. But it again makes us a bit more of a cog in the big wheel.
Oh dear, this got more philosophical than I wanted. But the gist is this: meat or not, the more conscious we become about the stuff we’re eating the better! Enjoy Thanksgiving 🙂
