  • 8.5 oz plain butter (alternatively, use salted butter and skip adding extra salt later)
  • 7 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika


  • Of course, good bread is the ultimate companion for tomato party butter. The fresher, the better. Spread thickly, ignore the arteries, and enjoy.

  1. Chop the onion and garlic as finely as possible. Fine is important. Put them in a large bowl.
  2. Add the butter, tomato paste, lemon juice, salt, pepper and paprika to the bowl and give it all a good mash up with a fork. Make sure everything gets mixed in well.
  3. Place in a suitable serving dish (or transportable dish).
  4. Party hard.
