How to satisfy vegans and non-vegans at one table

Here are some of our absolute favourite recipes for making in a vegetarian or meat-eating household – and to stop arguments before they even begin! All of these recipes are perfect for adding meat, egg or dairy products to – as well as keeping a vegan version for yourself!

Creamy Garlic Mushrooms

(+ ham or grated cheese)

Kat’s Creamy Garlic Mushrooms is a made-to-measure dish for the demanding. The only criterion is: they have to like mushrooms. The rest of the recipe is up to anyone. Don’t like bread? Serve it with rice. More into pasta? Do as you please. Need meat? Ham is a good add-on, as is grated cheese.
Mushroom lovers: Kat’s got you covered.

Thai Quinoa Salad

(+ shrimp and/or scrambled egg)

Ah, those su(hu)mmer ni(hiii)ghts, eh? Our Thai Quinoa Salad will enhance your tropical vibes and pack ‘em with nutrition, too. As the old saying goes; “make Thai quinoa salad while the sun shines”, and so we will. And if we truly must, we will add shrimp and/or some scrambled egg. If you just wish to recreate the feeling of a long-lost summer night, this dish works wonders, too. Summer days, drifting away, but oh – that Thai Quinoa Salad…

African Peanut Soup

(+ chicken filet or hard-boiled egg)

This is such a wonderful dish. It’s rich in flavours, yet light; it’s nice and salty, yet healthy. It’s packed with nutrients but it feels like a guilty pleasure. What more could you wish for?
Well, chicken, apparently.

Though we’ve never received complaints about this soup, if you have to add meat, let it be chicken filet. Both texture and taste wise, chicken and peanut are an excellent combination. Just make sure the chicken’s not too salty, because the peanut already is. Veggies can add an egg.

Choose either chicken or egg. Whichever comes first (boom-tisch! Sorry).

Pasta Bolognese – To Tofu or not to Tofu

(+ minced meat or parmesan cheese)

The beauty about this dish is, that the tofu gets in last. So you can choose to either add the minced meat or to replace the tofu with it. The beast is, that you need quite a lot of pans. We’re not saying you should have your picky eaters clean your dishes after dinner- no wait. We are. We are absolutely saying that.

Chickpea Curry

+ bacon bits or half a hard-boiled egg and/or yoghurt or sour cream and/or cheese- or meat-filled naan

This dish is known to convert even those weary of legumes, to the chickpea club. But if one absolutely needs his or her add-on, then let it be either egg or bacon. The salty crunch of bacon works really well with the creamy curry. Yoghurt or sour cream is absolutely not necessary, but serves as an easy side for those convinced they cannot go without.
