Cottage Cheese Smoothie (High protein)
Are you looking for a super-cheap, quick and tasty smoothie that’s brimming with protein power? Then you’re in the right place.
This cottage cheese smoothie was originally created as part of a competition, but it proved so popular that it had to be shared again.
How to make a high protein smoothie
Thanks to the cottage cheese, there’s already a lot of protein in this smoothie.
You can make it EVEN higher in protein with added protein powder. It blends up nice and smooth. I’ve tested it with and without, and I prefer the consistency with it, but it’s great both ways.
Swapping the coconut milk for regular milk would also add a few more grams. I don’t do this as we’re already using dairy for the cottage cheese and possibly protein powder.
But tell me how the smoothie tastes!
The cool thing about adding protein powder is that you can also change the flavour any way you like. I use strawberry and banana in this breakfast smoothie and it tastes and feels like cheesecake, but you can add chocolate, rocky road, or vanilla protein powder to change things up. Go wild!
My favourite is cookies and cream.
Extra flavour ideas
Peanut butter
Pineapple
Mango
Raspberries
Other berries
You can really add as many fruits as you like to this smoothie.

Make mine a shake!
It’s kind of a cottage cheese shake, as it’s quite thick. I found adding a little water when necessary thins it down if you prefer it that way. However you like it, the taste is guaranteed. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 1 banana
- 1 cup strawberries, fresh (frozen is fine too; you can use any berries you happen to have around)
- 1 cup low fat coconut milk *
- 1 cup low fat cottage cheese *
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
Optional
- 1 scoop protein powder
Instructions
- One of the joys and reasons for the ever-lasting popularity of smoothies lies in the simplicity of it all.
- Just throw all the ingredients into a blender (peel the banana first ;)) and press the magic button.
- If smoothie is too thick, add some water. If it’s how you like it, serve!

This is such a fun little competition! They both look amazing and I’m totally intrigued by cauliflower in a smoothie, but strawberry banana is such a classic. Very hard decision here and I refuse to make it. I’ll just take one of each! 🙂
sounds amazing!
Ugh! I was all in it for you to win it, then I saw that you used cottage cheese. I’ve never liked it. And I’ll have to try to find vegan cottage cheese now. I’m starting to think that raw cauliflower in a smoothie might be better than it sounds. Can I substitute vegan ricotta cheese? Please!
I guess you have to go for the cauliflower smoothie then, hahaha 😉
There’s no way I can decide! I love smoothies so I’d love to try them both!! I mean cheesecake, yes. But she has cake balls. It’s a neck in neck to me!
What a great smoothie flavor! You win!
Chocolate, strawberries, and cottage cheese sounds like an awesome combination. I’d probably name it something like chocolate-covered strawberry cheesecake. Very “Valentine’s Day”-esque flavors. I’ve been using my blender for soups, tofu puddings, and hummus lately. Once the weather gets warmer, it will be back to smoothies and protein ice cream.
Anything with the word ‘cheesecake’ in it is a winner in my book 🙂 Sounds like you’re keeping that blender busy Jordan, good stuff!
We can’t do dairy in our house, but I’ve added sour cream to a smoothie before. That may take the place of the cottage cheese. I would definitely try the Strawberry Banana recipe but not too sure about the cauli one.
hahahha, the cauli one is only for daring peeps 😀
Isn’t sour cream dairy????
