What is keto?
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you’ve heard about the ketogenic diet (also referred to as the keto diet). But what is the keto diet actually all about?
A keto diet means you increase the number of healthy fats you consume with moderate protein intake and low carb intake.
Although there are variations, the keto diet usually restricts carbs to somewhere between 20g and 50g a day. After that, most people will enter the stage of ‘ketosis’ – usually after 2-3 days, sometimes up to four.
The body then starts to break down fat and proteins for energy, as its usual carb supply is dwindling.
Keto recipes are most commonly followed to support weight loss, as keto foods can still be filling and satisfying, therefore reducing hunger stimulation hormones.
On top of that, a keto diet plan may also improve brain performance, encourage clearer skin and boost metabolism (according to this article from Medical News Today).
